What ties us together isn’t a handbook - it’s that none of us will leave a job without showing you exactly what we did and why.

Daniel Novak, Owner
I’ve been running Novak Lock & Security since 2002, and I still pull cylinders myself when the job calls for it. Started in this trade after watching a “locksmith” drill a perfectly good deadbolt in Arcadia because he didn’t carry the right blank - charged the homeowner $400 for a $45 fix. That was the last time I let someone else set the standard. These days I handle the high-security work personally: Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Abloy, the cylinders that actually stop a determined break-in. I keep a drawer of locks I’ve pulled off Phoenix doors that had no business being on those doors - hollow-core house knobs on commercial steel frames, Kwikset SmartKeys in warehouses full of copper wire. I show customers what was there, what replaced it, and what the difference costs. Haven Standard Clause 1 is my rule: the price on the phone is the price on the invoice. No exceptions since day one.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus runs the emergency rotation and has opened more locked vehicles in Phoenix than he can count - estimates 8,000-plus since he joined us in 2016. He’s factory-authorized on Schlage Primus and Baldwin Estate lines, which means he can key those systems to match existing master key setups without sending you back to the original dealer. Before locksmithing, Marcus spent four years as a diesel mechanic, and he still thinks in terms of wear patterns and metal fatigue. He’ll tell you exactly why your ignition cylinder failed instead of just replacing it. Off hours, he restores vintage motorcycles in a garage near South Mountain. Customers who’ve met him at 2 a.m. in a parking garage remember the calm more than the speed.

Elena handles our commercial access control and large-scale rekey projects - the jobs where one building has forty-seven locks and three different keyways that need to talk to each other. She came to us from a commercial door hardware supplier in 2019, already fluent in electrified strikes, mag locks, and the ADA clearance codes that trip up most residential guys. Her specialty is retrofitting older Phoenix buildings with modern access control without chewing through historic door frames - common in the Roosevelt Row corridor and the warehouse districts near Grand Avenue. Elena keeps a notebook of every oddball mortise lock she’s encountered in Arizona, indexed by building year. She’ll tell you the 1950s Yale in your Midtown office door can probably be rebuilt instead of replaced, and she’ll show you the cost difference in writing.
James K., Service Coordinator
James is the voice you hear when you call (480) 376-7170 at midnight or noon. He’s been with Novak since 2020, and his job is to answer - live, every time - gather what we need, and quote your price before anyone dispatches. No voicemail trees, no “we’ll call you back in twenty minutes.” James came from hotel front-desk management, which taught him to spot the difference between a lockout and a security breach over the phone. He knows which neighborhoods in Phoenix have the fastest response times from our current position, and he’ll tell you honestly if we’re thirty minutes out or two hours. He also tracks every photo record and written scope to make sure your documentation hits your inbox before the technician drives away. James doesn’t make promises he can’t see in the schedule.
Darien V., Apprentice Technician
Darien joined us in 2024 after completing a locksmithing program at a Phoenix trade school - one of the few that still teaches impressioning by hand instead of just code-cutting. He’s our pick-and-rekey specialist on residential jobs, and he’s building his hours toward factory authorization on Mul-T-Lock and Medeco. Right now, Elena shadows him on access control runs, and Marcus checks his emergency openings until the muscle memory sets in. Darien grew up in Maryvale, and he knows which apartment complexes in west Phoenix still run the old Weiser keyways that most shops don’t stock anymore. He carries blanks for them. His first solo job was rekeying a rental in Sunnyslope where the previous tenant had made nine copies - Darien handed the landlord the photo record and explained which keyway would have prevented the problem for forty dollars more upfront.
One Standard, Every Job
The Haven Standard isn’t a slogan we put on a truck. It’s a numbered framework that governs how every technician across all ten Haven brands documents, prices, and warranties their work. For us in Phoenix, that means Clause 1 controls what you pay - quoted in full before dispatch, locked on the invoice. Clause 3 requires the photo record you receive before we leave. Clause 7 triggers the 365-Day Done Right Promise if anything fails because of our install or our parts. Daniel wrote these rules into the business in 2002, and they haven’t changed because the problems haven’t changed: hidden fees, bait-and-switch pricing, and technicians who can’t explain what they did.
